Autumn Race News: Timing changes at XC2 Crowthorne Wood, Sunday 11 November

by Jane Lucas, 15 Oct 12.

An update on two exciting developments for Gorrick: introducing new sponsor Kawasaki Motors, and full details of the 20 year Gorrick Anniversary races and altered start timings on the 11th November at Crowthorne.

Kawasaki Motors

Firstly, we are proud to announce that we have agreed a partnership deal with Kawasaki Motors UK. This effectively unites two enthusiastic sports with a passion for speed and the great outdoors. It will, in particular, help us take the Gorrick 100 Enduro to the next level. We believe Kawasaki will be an exciting and innovative partner as we enter our 21st year and that will benefit our riders and introduce our events and Kawasaki to new audiences.

Autumn Classic 2 race time changes

Also, as you can’t fail to have noticed because we keep talking about it, the Autumn Classic 2 event at Crowthorne marks our 20th anniversary. When we started mountain biking was a fairly new sport and, we would like to think, that with you we have played a part in developing the sport and making it what it is today. To mark this we will be making a few changes to the Crowthorne event.

The morning will run pretty much as usual, including the national 2 minutes of silence at 11am, but we have brought forward the Sport and Expert races to 9.40 and 9.41.

The afternoon timings will now run like this:

12.15 will be the Gorrick 20 Anniversary Race – details below
13.30 / 13.31 Fun Male and Female
14.15 / 14.16 Open Male and Female

From 12 noon we will be going retro for an hour or so with music and some of the staff from 1992. Plus a photo and kit display to embarrass the hell out of us.

The Gorrick 20 two lap vintage race at 12.15 for over 18s which is strictly for fun. We have a trophy for the first finisher, but the big winner will be whoever has their returned number drawn from the bin at 13.15 as they will WIN £500 (remember you have to be there at the draw to win!)

The Gorrick 20 race is to reward our loyal riders, and there are a lot of you out there, and the numbers will be capped. There are two ways that you can enter:

1. We have all our results from 1992 to 1993 – if you think you are on them then email us and we will check and send you a numbered invitation to do the race for free.

2. If you have raced more than 20 times with Gorrick over the years then email us and request to enter and we will check, then add you to the list. If you are going to race in your usual category as well it will be an extra £5 to do the Gorrick 20 payable on the day when you collect your special number, if not then it will be £25.

If you do the Gorrick 20 please wear any vintage kit that you have and if you have a vintage bike then please ride it – there will be spot prizes! Also, we have already received some great photos from back in the day, but please scan and email over any that you may have from the early 90s and we’ll put them in our rogues’ gallery. So see you at Crowthorne.
